The 1995 Adams Trip Around America

The Grand Canyon

We left Disneyland Saturday morning and drove east. The wife had picked up a few brochures and, as we approached Williams, Arizona we phoned ahead and arranged a trip to the Grand Canyon on the steam railway.

In the days before the automobile, the freight train went through Williams and tourists could get off to ride up to the Grand Canyon on another spur line. A group has restored the track, steam engine, and several passenger cars (from standard coach to first class).

The little guys enjoyed the ride.

But, before riding in the train, some local "cowboys" staged a shootout. A rube was chosen from the audience to be cheated at cards. Happily the sheriff came to save the day. The bad guys later "robbed" the train on the way back from the Grand Canyon, and hereto, the sheriff got the bad guys. There was also live music during the train rides. A very happy and pleasant experience.

We only visited the south rim of the Canyon. We all enjoyed enjoyed the views despite the rain.
