As you approach Mount Rushmore, there are several tourist attractions.
We stopped at two: Reptile World and Western Drive Through Park.
Reptile World was surprising good.
This sort of thing can be very cheesy
but we saw many reptiles, a nice demonstration of alligator handling,
tropical birds, and fish.
Here is the family in a walk in aviary visiting with various parrots and budgies.
The cheesy stuff was still here, though. One of my favorite was the
coin operated chicken.
For a quarter, a chicken comes out of it's pen, "hits a baseball",
runs around the four bases of the baseball diamond, then goes
back into it's pen to get it's treat. There was also a piano playing
duck and a tic-tack-toe playing chicken. Real corny, but there wasn't much of it.
Down the road is a drive through zoo specializing in the animals that used to be wild here in the Dakotas. Goats, bob cats, elk, many others along with a large collection of bears.
